Daniel Gershenson

Daniel Gershenson is a prominent Mexican activist, public intellectual, and columnist. With a Jewish background, he has long been involved in the development of Mexican civil society. His career spans several fields, including consumer protection, environmentalism, and political transparency, making him a significant leader in contemporary Mexican urban activism.

Gershenson is a founding member of the Mexican NGO Alconsumidor, which focuses on defending consumer rights and combating monopolies. Through social media and public speaking, he has successfully advanced numerous civic initiatives regarding government transparency and urban infrastructure reform. Renowned for his courage in challenging powerful interests and large corporations, he advocates for grassroots mobilization to strengthen Mexico’s democratic institutions and ensure ordinary citizens have a voice in public decision-making.

Gershenson is a representative voice within the Mexican Jewish community for Palestinian rights. A participant in initiatives like “Jews for Peace” (Judíos por la Paz), he strongly condemns military actions in the Gaza Strip. He maintains that the core of Jewish ethics should be universal human rights rather than nationalism. In a public commentary, he noted: “Our identity must not serve as a shield for supporting oppression; just as we fight for justice in Mexico, we must demand an end to the atrocities in Palestine.” Leveraging his public influence, he calls on the Mexican government to take a firmer stance on the international stage to protect civilian lives.
