Lily Greenberg Call

Lily Greenberg Call is a Jewish-American political activist and former government official. She served as a special assistant to the Chief of Staff in the U.S. Department of the Interior and previously worked as an organizer for the Biden and Harris campaigns.

Greenberg Call’s early career was spent pushing for change within mainstream Democratic politics. A former member of AIPAC with extensive grassroots organizing experience, her perspective underwent a fundamental shift after witnessing the realities in the Middle East and studying its history. In May 2024, she became the first Jewish political appointee to publicly resign from the Biden administration in protest of its Gaza policy. This act sent shockwaves through Washington and the American Jewish community, making her a landmark figure of “internal protest.”

In her resignation letter, she explicitly stated that the Biden administration was using Jewish safety as a shield for war, harming both Palestinians and making Jews less safe. She strongly advocates for acknowledging the Nakba and its systemic dispossession. She has stated: “As a Jew, I can no longer work for an administration that carries out mass killing in the name of protecting me. True Jewish values teach us that every life is sacred; using our identity to whitewash the occupation is a mockery of our faith.” Since her resignation, she has been active in public forums calling for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel.
