Andy Levin

Andy Levin is a Jewish-American politician, labor organizer, and human rights lawyer. He served as the U.S. Representative from Michigan from 2019 to 2023. Coming from a prominent political dynasty, he is known for his steadfast adherence to independent moral principles.

Before Congress, Levin was a prominent labor leader and environmental expert pushing for clean energy transitions. In office, he championed union rights and served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He gained national attention for introducing the Two-State Solution Act, which sought to advance a just peace by placing conditions on military aid. Levin’s career exemplifies how an institutional politician can use legal frameworks to prioritize universal human rights over partisan expediency.

Andy Levin is regarded as one of the most courageous Jewish members of Congress. Despite immense pressure from pro-Israel lobbying groups like AIPAC, he consistently critiques the occupation. He maintains that as a Jew who loves his tradition, he has a heightened obligation to highlight the harm of military occupation and the erosion of Jewish democratic values. He famously stated: “My Jewish values demand that I support the dignity of all people. If we are to protect Israel’s future, we must end the occupation and recognize Palestinian sovereignty. Supporting human rights is not antisemitism; it is the highest tribute to the pursuit of justice (Tzedek) at the heart of our faith.” This principled stance led to unprecedented opposition spending against him in 2022, yet he remains a moral compass for progressive foreign policy.
