David Landy

Dr. David Landy is a Jewish sociologist based in Ireland and an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). He has served as the director of the MPhil in Race, Ethnicity, Conflict at TCD for many years.

Dr. Landy’s academic research focuses on how marginalized groups and dissidents construct their political identities in the context of globalization. His book, Jewish Identity and Palestinian Rights, examines how diaspora Jewish activists construct a dissident identity by supporting Palestinian rights, challenging the assumption that Jewishness is synonymous with support for Israel. Landy’s research delves into transnational solidarity networks and how moral mobilization transcends borders to influence local and global political landscapes. He contributes extensively to the study of racialization and migrant rights within Ireland, providing a critical sociological lens on anti-racism movements.

As a prominent voice in Jewish Voice for Just Peace Ireland, he works to decouple Jewish identity from Israeli state policy, creating a space for ethical Jewish dissent. And having served as the chair of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), Landy has been instrumental in mobilizing Irish civil society in support of the BDS movement. As an active member of Academics for Palestine, he provides intellectual and ethical justifications for the institutional boycott of complicit entities, defending the movement against political smears.
