Daniela Dover

Daniela Dover is an ethics and political philosopher, Associate Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University. She currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Previously, she held a faculty position as an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford, paired with a tutorial fellowship at Merton College, Oxford, after earlier academic appointments at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dover’s research centers on moral and political philosophy, social philosophy, feminist philosophy, the ethics of conversation and persuasion, and the dynamics of self-criticism and interpersonal responsibility.

Throughout her academic tenure, Dover has focused on normative ethics and social theory, publishing foundational papers in flagship philosophical journals such as Philosophy & Public Affairs, Ethics, and Mind. Her core theoretical contributions focus on conversational ethics, examining the normative mechanics of interpersonal persuasion, moral demands, and cross-perspective engagement. Within higher education, she has consistently advocated for maintaining critical philosophical interrogation of power structures, actively engaging in initiatives aimed at promoting equity, intellectual freedom, and open debate within academic institutions.

Since October 2023, Dover has expressed his support for the Palestinians through numerous joint open letters and collective statements, such as “An Open Letter from Concerned Jewish Faculty at the University of Oxford” and “Open letter on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
