Harrison Mann is a former U.S. Army Major and Middle East intelligence analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Descended from European Jewish immigrants who fled persecution, Mann served in the U.S. military for 13 years, working as an Infantry Officer and Intelligence Officer with deployments across the Middle East and Africa.
Prior to his resignation, Mann evaluated weapons transfers, regional military dynamics, and U.S. security policy within the DIA’s Middle East and North Africa Regional Center. In late 2023, he submitted his resignation from the military, becoming the first U.S. military intelligence officer to step down in protest of U.S. military support for Israel during the Gaza conflict. He publicly released his resignation letter in May 2024.
In his official resignation letter, Mann cited his moral obligations and professional ethics as a Jewish American, writing that the United States’ “nearly unqualified support for the government of Israel” had “enabled and empowered the killing and starvation of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians.“ He expressed shame over his role in supporting U.S. policy and warned that unconditional military assistance compromised American national security and international legal standards.
Following his departure from military service, Mann has engaged with international media outlets—including CBS News, CNN, and The New York Times—to speak out against institutional silence within the national security apparatus. He urges current government and military personnel to uphold domestic and international laws prohibiting military assistance to foreign forces engaged in gross human rights violations, while calling for an immediate embargo on offensive arms transfers to Israel.
