Max Kaiser is an Australian historian and Executive Officer at the Jewish Council of Australia. He earned his PhD in history from the University of Melbourne, where his research focused on antisemitism, Jewish antifascism, and Australian Jewish history.
Kaiser is the author of the 2022 monograph “Jewish Antifascism and the False Promise of Settler Colonialism,” published by Palgrave Macmillan. His academic work examines mid-twentieth-century Jewish progressive movements in Australia, particularly the Jewish Council to Combat Fascism and Anti-Semitism formed in Melbourne in 1942. His research explores how historical Jewish antifascist groups linked opposition to Nazi persecution with broader struggles against racial discrimination and settler colonialism.
As an executive officer of the Jewish Council of Australia, Kaiser regularly comments in Australian news media—including the ABC, SBS, and The Guardian—on issues regarding hate speech legislation, far-right politics, and Middle East foreign policy. He advocates against identifying all Jewish identity with Zionism or the policies of the Israeli government, arguing for political diversity within Australian diaspora communities. Kaiser is one of the signatories of the 2025 public statement, “Global Jewish Call on the UN and World Leaders to Sanction Israel.”
