David Klion is an American journalist, editor, and political critic. Raised in a Jewish family, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s degree in history from Princeton University, where his research focused on Russian and Soviet history.
Klion’s career spans commentary on foreign policy, American politics, and Jewish-American identity politics. He previously served as an editor for World Policy Journal and as a senior editor at The Nation. He is currently a contributing editor at Jewish Currents, a progressive publication focusing on politics, culture, and Jewish thought. His essays and journalism have appeared in outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, The New Republic, Foreign Policy, and Slate.
Through his writing and editorial work, Klion regularly critiques U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and advocates for Palestinian rights. In his May 2026 essay for The Nation, “Israel’s Supporters Are Playing Into the Hands of the Antisemitic Right,” Klion challenged institutional efforts to equate anti-Zionism with antisemitism, writing: “Much of what has been labeled ‘antisemitism’ is actually just energetic opposition to Israel in response to its apartheid regime in the West Bank and its ongoing genocide against the Palestinians of Gaza.“ He further argued that American Jewish leadership bears responsibility for this dynamic: “But it is also impossible to reckon with the growing influence of the antisemitic right without considering how the bulk of Jewish institutions have themselves insisted that Judaism and Zionism are synonymous… The awkward truth is that no one is more responsible for conflating Israel and Zionism with Jews and Judaism than Jewish leaders themselves.“
Klion is also one of the signatories of the 2025 public statement, “Global Jewish Call on the UN and World Leaders to Sanction Israel.”
