David Comedi is an outstanding Argentine physicist, professor, and political activist of Jewish descent. He serves as a Professor of Physics at the National University of Tucumán (UNT) and as a Senior Researcher at Argentina’s National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), working within the Laboratorio de Física del Sólido (LAFIS).
Comedi’s academic research focuses on solid-state physics, semiconductor nanostructures, and nanophotonics, particularly the optical and electronic properties of metal oxide nanowires and thin films. In addition to his laboratory research, Comedi has been active in public debates regarding science funding in Argentina, participating in national faculty protests against federal budget cuts to public universities and CONICET.
Comedi is a prominent voice in Latin American anti-Zionist organizing. He serves as an official spokesperson for the Argentine chapter of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN) and an active member of Judíos Argentinos por Palestina (Argentine Jews for Palestine). In these roles, he frequently challenges mainstream communal institutions, such as the DAIA (Delegación de Asociaciones Israelitas Argentinas), and opposes Israeli military operations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. He has signed numerous open petitions alongside Latin American scholars and human rights advocates endorsing the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Comedi frequently uses public platforms and social media to articulate a secular, anti-Zionist Jewish perspective, arguing that universal human rights and anti-colonialism align with traditional Jewish ethics. Critiquing military escalation in the Middle East, he stated on social media: “Eso es el sionismo: destrucción y masacres todos los días“ (“That is Zionism: destruction and massacres every day”).
