Ann Jungman

Ann Jungman is a celebrated British Jewish children’s author, publisher, and peace activist. The author of over a hundred widely-loved children’s books, she has dedicated her life to fostering empathy, breaking down social barriers, and fighting for human rights through literature and grassroots mobilizing.

Jungman was raised in a German-Jewish refugee family that fled to Britain just before World War II. Her inherited family legacy of displacement directly formed her universalist commitment to human rights, driving her to stand in solidarity with Palestinians and ensure no other people endure the trauma of losing their homes.

A mainstay of British children’s literature, she has created over 100 beloved children’s books, novels, and plays. Her representative works, such as the Cedric the Demolition Dog series and the Vlad the Drac series, are known for their witty humor and nuanced portrayal of marginalized individuals. She skillfully weaves grand values such as fairness and justice, anti-bullying, and cross-cultural friendship into her early childhood and youth literature. Her writings are frequently utilized in schools to nurture critical thinking and foster cross-cultural solidarity, acting as an educational vaccine against xenophobia and tribal hatred.

Jungman is a dedicated member of Jews for Justice for Palestinians (JfJfP) and serves on the Steering Committee of Independent Jewish Voices (IJV). In these leadership capacities, she helps direct the strategic, political, and cultural push within British society to challenge mainstream Zionist hegemony and champion Palestinian liberation. She has consistently utilized her platform to highlight the devastating psychological and physical impact of the Israeli occupation and blockades on Palestinian children, holding state mechanisms accountable for stolen childhoods.
