Arielle Angel

Arielle Angel is a Jewish-American editor, writer, and creative professional. She currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Jewish Currents. Since the magazine’s relaunch in 2018, she has successfully transformed it into a central intellectual hub for progressive Jewish youth and left-wing intellectuals globally.

Under Angel’s leadership, Jewish Currents evolved from a traditional community publication into an internationally influential platform for long-form reporting and cultural criticism. She has spearheaded discussions on the “New Jewish Left” identity, covering broad issues from labor rights and climate justice to anti-racism. Renowned for her rigorous editorial style and fearless exploration of complex political topics—such as the politicization of Holocaust memory—she is considered a key figure in defining 21st-century American Jewish political discourse.

Angel is a prominent voice for “non-Zionism” and the Palestinian liberation movement. She advocates for linking Jewish safety to universal liberation—especially that of Palestinians—rather than relying on state violence. She has authored numerous influential editorials exploring why the Jewish community must confront the moral dilemmas of the occupation. She once noted: “We are at a turning point where more Jews realize our identity should not be defined by military rule over others. Supporting justice for Palestine is a necessary act to preserve our own human dignity.” Through her platform, she consistently provides a voice for Palestinian writers and anti-occupation activists.
