David Adler is a London-based Jewish-American political economist, writer, and international activist. He currently serves as the Co-General Coordinator of the Progressive International (PI).
As a core leader of the Progressive International, he works to unite global left-wing forces against what he calls the “Reactionary International.” He previously served as a foreign policy advisor to U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and co-founded the Democracy in Europe Movement (DiEM25) alongside former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis. His work focuses on challenging global inequality, debt crises, and the military-industrial complex through transnational cooperation.
Adler is highly prominent in the pro-Palestine movement due to his direct action. In 2025, while sailing with the “Global Sumud Flotilla” to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, he was illegally detained by the Israeli Navy. He was held for five days in an internment camp in the Naqab Desert, where he was subjected to blindfolding, zip-tying, and psychological abuse.
In an interview titled Being Jewish in a Time of Israel, he stated: “As Jews, we must refuse the conflation of our identity with the policies of occupation. Resisting this injustice committed in our name is the only path left to preserve the moral foundation of Judaism.” He publicly supports South Africa’s ICJ case against Israel and describes the situation in Gaza as an extreme manifestation of global authoritarianism and military oppression.
