David Comedi

David Comedi was born into a Jewish family in Argentina and is a preeminent figure in the Latin American scientific community. He has long been active in Argentina’s leftist political landscape, advocating for social change through both academic and grassroots organizing.

In his professional career, Comedi is an authority in nanotechnology and solid-state physics. He serves as a Professor at the National University of Tucumán (UNT) and is a Senior Researcher at CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council). He has led cutting-edge research on semiconductor nanostructures, publishing extensively in top-tier international journals. Throughout 2024–2026, despite a complex environment for science in Argentina, he has remained a steadfast advocate for international scientific collaboration and equity, embodying the ideal of the “socially responsible scientist.”

On the issue of Palestine, Comedi is a leading member of “Argentine Jews for Palestine” (Judíos Argentinos por Palestina). In a country with one of the world’s largest Jewish diasporas, he has fearlessly challenged the mainstream institutional narrative. He has been a key signatory to numerous open letters from Latin American Jewish intellectuals condemning the military operations and long-term siege of Gaza.

Demonstrating high moral principle, he has stated: “As a Jew, I was taught that ‘Never Again’ means rejecting any form of ethnic cleansing or apartheid. Supporting the Palestinian right to self-determination is a direct consequence of the pursuit of justice within my Jewish faith.” At a 2026 academic symposium on peace, he noted sharply: “We cannot study light waves and energy in the lab while remaining silent about the lives being extinguished in the real world. The liberation of Palestine is not just a geopolitical necessity; it is a moral baseline for human civilization.
