Lady Ellen Dahrendorf is a prominent British Jewish historian and translator. She is a Senior Associate Member of St Antony’s College, Oxford, and the widow of the distinguished sociologist and political philosopher Lord Ralf Dahrendorf.
She has translated several pivotal Russian historical works, most notably My Six Years with Gorbachev by Anatoly Chernyaev, providing invaluable insights into the internal mechanics of the Kremlin during the end of the Cold War. As a member of St Antony’s College, Oxford, her work contributes to the deep understanding of Russian and Eastern European political transformations and international relations.
Lady Dahrendorf was a co-founder of the Independent Jewish Voices (IJV) organisation and the chair of the British branch of the New Israel Fund. She said at the founding of the IJV:
I’ve long been appalled by the humiliating, brutal and brutalizing occupation of the West Bank. In our current atmosphere of growing ‘tribalism’ and the politics of identity, it is more crucial than ever that friends of Israel voice their concerns.
