Hagit Borer

Prof. Hagit Borer is an internationally renowned Jewish linguist. Born in Israel, she is currently a Professor of Linguistics at Queen Mary University of London. She is a leading figure in contemporary generative grammar.

Prof. Borer is world-famous for her Exo-Skeletal Model, which argues that syntactic structures—rather than individual words—determine meaning. A Fellow of the British Academy, she has taught at elite institutions like UMass Amherst. Her revolutionary research has fundamentally altered our understanding of the interface between morphology and syntax.

As an Israeli-born academic and IDF veteran, Borer’s voice carries immense weight. She is a core activist for BRICUP and a staunch supporter of the BDS movement against Israeli academic institutions. She critiques the complicity of Israeli academia in the military-industrial complex. She has poignantly noted: “A society built on conquest and dispossession would have to dehumanize the conquered in order to continue to dispossess and oppress them.”
