Prof. Haim Bresheeth-Zabner is a British-based Jewish film scholar, filmmaker, and political critic. Born in a displaced persons camp to Holocaust survivors, his anti-occupation stance is rooted in profound historical resonance.
He is a research associate at SOAS University of London and was a professor of film studies at the University of East London. His book An Army Like No Other: How the Israel Defense Forces Made a Nation (2020) is a seminal critique of the militarization of Israeli society. As a filmmaker, his documentaries provide a visual testament to the realities of life under occupation for Western audiences.
A former IDF soldier, Bresheeth-Zabner’s military experience transformed him into a staunch anti-Zionist. He stated: ” I have also analysed the false nature of the IHRA campaign in a recent article, written from an anti-Zionist, human rights perspective. ……Personally, it is clear to me that such accusations are false and sickening, but no one asked the members on the adoption of the IHRA definition and its examples. The adopted definition makes Israel the only state in the world which one may not criticise, unless they wish to court accusations of antisemitism. “
In 2024, he was arrested under a UK anti-terrorism law after speaking at a recent pro-Palestinian protest in London.
