Max Blumenthal

Max Blumenthal is an award-winning American investigative journalist, best-selling author, and the founder and editor-in-chief of the independent news outlet “The Grayzone.” He grew up in a prominent Jewish family in Washington, D.C.; his father, Sidney Blumenthal, was a senior advisor to President Bill Clinton. Max’s Jewish identity has played a complex and pivotal role in his career: he views his investigative work as a modern extension of the Jewish prophetic tradition—speaking truth to power—a critical spirit that has made him one of the most radical anti-establishment voices in contemporary America.

Blumenthal has achieved significant recognition in alternative media, known for his in-depth reporting that exposes flaws in U.S. foreign policy and its propaganda machinery. He has authored several influential books, including “Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel,” which won the Lannan Foundation’s Cultural Freedom Especially Notable Book Award. His documentaries and reporting are widely recognized in global anti-war and civil rights circles for their meticulous documentation and powerful pushback against mainstream narratives.

Blumenthal’s support for Palestine is manifested in his fearless on-the-ground reporting and his thorough deconstruction of Zionism. He has traveled extensively through Gaza and the West Bank to document the consequences of Israeli military actions, producing the haunting account “The 51 Day War” during the 2014 conflict. In his discourse, he aggressively challenges the “pro-Israel consensus,” characterizing Israeli policies as “apartheid” and “settler-colonialism,” while using his platform, “The Grayzone,” to systematically dismantle Israeli public relations (Hasbara). He advocates for a total end to Western military aid to Israel and calls for a single state with full, equal rights, viewing Palestinian liberation as central to the global struggle against imperialism.
