Michael Sappir is an Israeli-born political commentator, left-wing essayist, and activist based in Leipzig, Germany. He functions as a regular contributor to various independent media outlets and political journals, while actively participating in progressive Jewish solidarity initiatives within Germany. Sappir’s investigative journalism and media analysis center on the distortion of German memory culture, the structural manipulation of antisemitism definitions, and the institutional censorship of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As a prominent voice among the younger generation of Israeli dissidents in Europe, he consistently dissects the administrative parameters of Germany’s Staatsräson (State Reason), serving as an influential analytical writer within the contemporary human rights movement.
Michael Sappir co-founded the “Jewish Israeli Dissidents in Leipzig” (JID), a progressive network establishing a dedicated space for Jewish activists to express solidarity with Palestinians and challenge Germany’s unconditional support for Israeli policies.
