Rachel Szor

Rachel Szor is an Israeli documentary director, cinematographer, editor, and investigative journalist based in Jerusalem. Working in close collaboration with Palestinian and Israeli activists, her long-term field reporting and documentary work examine the military occupation, land rights, and human rights violations in the region.

Szor began her career in photojournalism and investigative reporting before transitioning to documentary filmmaking as a director, cinematographer, and editor:

No Other Land (2024): Co-directed and shot by Szor alongside Basel Adra, Yuval Abraham, and Hamdan Ballal, the documentary chronicles the forced displacement of Palestinian residents in Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank. The film won the Berlinale Documentary Award and the Panorama Audience Award at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, and received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2025.

NAZA (2026): Co-directed and shot by Szor and Yuval Abraham, produced by The Guardian in collaboration with executive producer Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest). The film’s title references the Hebrew military acronym for collateral damage (nezek agavi). Shot at night in Tel Aviv, it features testimonies from 24 anonymized Israeli military and intelligence personnel detailing AI-assisted targeting systems and operational policies surrounding civilian casualties in Gaza. NAZA premiered in main competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, winning the Special Jury Prize in September 2026.

Through projects like No Other Land and NAZA, Szor directly documents settlement expansion, home demolitions, and military targeting frameworks, challenging institutional denial and bringing global visibility to the plight of Palestinian civilians. In addition, she expressed further views in a related interview: “It’s true that Israel is losing the battle of public opinion, but what it is not losing is the support of governments, and I think that is the main problem. As long as it receives weapons from the U.S. or Germany, as long as states remain complicit, nothing will change.“
