Yuval Abraham is an Israeli investigative journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker. Raised in an Israeli Jewish family, he learned Arabic as a young man, using the language to conduct long-term reporting in Palestinian communities and analyze the political and social structures of the conflict from within.
Abraham received international attention for his investigative reporting on AI-assisted targeting systems—such as “Lavender”—used by the Israeli military during the Gaza war, detailing the technical and ethical implications of automated warfare. His filmmaking work includes two major collaborative documentaries:
No Other Land (2024): Co-directed with Basel Adra, Rachel Szor, and Hamdan Ballal, this documentary chronicles the forced displacement of Palestinian residents in Masafer Yatta in the West Bank. The film received the Berlinale Documentary Award and the Panorama Audience Award at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival, and won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2025.
NAZA (2026): Co-directed with Rachel Szor and produced by The Guardian alongside executive producer Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest). Title-referenced after the Hebrew military acronym for collateral damage (nezek agavi), the film was shot covertly in Tel Aviv and features interviews with 24 anonymized Israeli military and intelligence personnel regarding Gaza operational frameworks. NAZA premiered at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, winning the Special Jury Prize in September 2026. In interviews regarding NAZA, Abraham reiterated his critique of civilian casualties, stating: “It’s a war that has principally been killing civilians. And I think our film is showing that this is not some mistake. It’s not an accident. It’s something very, very systemic.”
This close-range observation of reality has compelled Abraham to become a steadfast advocate for Palestinian rights. Abraham’s reporting frequently critiques Israeli state policy, describing conditions in the Occupied Territories as “apartheid” and calling for a framework based on equal rights under the law. His political reporting and speeches have drawn public backlash and death threats in Israel. In 2025, he was among the signatories of the “Global Jewish Call on the UN and World Leaders to Sanction Israel.”
